PLACE is a study of patterned material. In this case, wallpaper is installed and worked throughout the hostel as a response to its interior
and 'placed' environment.
Most of my work is process-based with elements of 'cut & paste' manipulation of found images and patterns.
Since I moved into the UK two years ago,
I've been extremely fascinated about the differences between Canadian
and Scottish lifestyles,
particularly within domestic spaces. I've especially been intrigued
by the use of wallpaper within British households. My work acknowledges
non-functioningobject(s) within an interior space (like wallpaper) 'saving'
it from becoming 'background' information.
It is a response to the concept and function of decoration in domesticity.
PLACE provides personal and domestic visibility to communal, non-personal
and non-domestic spaces.
