a
short description of project : Travel agency for Cockaigne, a glutton’s paradise island made out of food. Meal Rooms, a chandelier of vegetables gradually dismantled, cooked up and served to the audience. |
about
current work : My practice involves a variety of media in site and context specific installations and projects. My work is often the result of working with an existing, temporary, created or fictionalised ‘community’ or event in which the viewer completes the work. My practice interrogates identity and communications in relation to commodified notions of paradise and global tourism and trade. |
a
brief biography : Recent exhibitions include: It’s Going to Get Worse, a commission for the Serpentine Gallery, during which I was artist-in-residence at Speakers Corner, Hyde Park; Hisute, a performance shown at VAIN Live Art, Oxford, and Hair the Show at the Tablet Gallery, London; Taranta, a video installation of line dancing groups, screened on the bullet ridden wall of a 1920s shooting gallery at Queen of Hungary/ Norwich Arts Centre; Dambusters, shown at the Netherlands New Media Insitute, Amsterdam, using Global Positioning Systems to create a multi-user game for participants at Dam Square, Amsterdam; Cockaigne, a travel agency for a fictional glutton’s paradise island, made entirely of food, shown at Gallery Los 29 Enchufes, Madrid and the Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester. I am currently working on a photographic project with Autograph. I also teach on the BA Fine Art and Foundation courses at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London, and run projects for various galleries, including the Hayward Gallery, Chisenhale Gallery, Design Museum and Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester. |
