merge D is a new artist run organisation based in the City of Glasgow,
set up to facilitate emerging artists, which aims to be a catalyst for collaborative
ventures between artists with a fresh focus on site specific art works.
Its main objective is to promote growth of young emerging artists across
a broad range of disciplines and exists as a moving/adaptable project, with
a core group of artists. The intention of the project is to have strong
connections to local contexts and in the form of site-specific arts spaces
that engage local people. E merge D launched a site-specific exhibition called Public/Private, at Mansions, Charing Cross, Glasgow, during the month of April 2002. 'Public/Private' includes works by 16 local and international artists who will be presenting interesting, innovative and thought provoking work. The selections of works include sculpture, photography, painting, projection, prints, drawing and installation. The exhibition wascomprised of three sections. In the first week (1st - 8th April) a collaboration piece by amy SALES and ruth LEGG. Followed by new works by invited artists from 9th - 21st April. Including kate BURTON, jim COLQUHORN, jim DIXON, vicki FLECK, lucy GIBSON, geraldine GREENE, james HODGSON, will HOLT, andy KNOWLES, mark MELVIN, yvonne McCLEMENT, dan MILLER, craig PELUSEY and esther WEIR. In the final week (22nd - 1st May) another collaboration by artists ruth LEGG and amy SALES. Future ventures include exchange and residency opportunities, locally and internationally, and continuing interventions into public spaces in Glasgow.
