Untitled This video piece, developed specifically for New Ruins, will create a mounting sense of unease as tension mounts and disaster beckons. Myrup will draw on her investigations into the fleeting moment and the brevity and fragility of human life to present a new work in which edited fragments of disaster movies are juxtaposed with one another as destruction mounts. Questioning the scale of the catastrophic moment, Myrup’s borrowed aesthetic conjures both melancholy and humour as she points to the preciousness of gentle gestures. ‘Dust in the air suspended / Marks the place where a story ended.’ (TS Elliot). Myrup is a Danish artist living and working in Glasgow. Since graduating from Glasgow School of Art in 2002, Martine Myrup
has exhibited in group shows, solo shows and residencies throughout
Scotland including most recently the Maid of Corinth at Market Gallery,
Glasgow, and the prestigious Hospitalfield Houseresidency (Royal Scottish
Academy, with upcoming publication). |
