ARTWORK TITLE: Graffiti
Released SUMMARY OF PROJECT: Outdoor blue L.E.D. sign illuminating jail cell graffiti in the Old City Watch House. DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT: " SCOT GARDNER L'S ODETTE CARTER " An L.E.D. display on the front of the Old City Watch House, symbolically raised above the entrance of the lock-up liberates the graffiti in the historical cells to the world, releasing it from the constraints of the jail. As an exorcist releases restless spirits from the man-made world, i want to liberate the romantic, angry and lost yearnings contained in the graffiti of the Old City Watch House.The display is blue; emitting a neutral, unearthly light. STATEMENT ABOUT CURRENT WORK: Portraits, collage, rupture and grotesquery. Currently employed making live video for dance companies. Making photographs of people I know and people I don’t know. Attempting to slow down the speed of information. Re-using existing media. Appropriation and subversion. Entertainment and destruction. BIOGRAPHY A multi-disciplinary artist, his single-channel videos, text installations, live video performances and photography have been exhibited at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Museum fur Gestaltung Zurich, Tel Aviv cinmateque and Seoul Fringe Festival.
