E m e r g e D Edinburgh Launch - Bad Friday
Friday 25th March 2005

To mark the launch of [00/00], the new Edinburgh programme, E m e r g e D present a talk by Australian artist and curator tai SNAITH with music by WOUNDED KNEE at Cell 77, 77 Montgomery Street, Edinburgh.

‘Badness’ is a concept that a new wave of Melbourne artists are embracing to its dark, subversive, yet deliciously entertaining core. Working within a political climate that is far from serendipitous, these young and emerging artists are grappling with social and moral issues alike, melting them down with a good dose of black humour and teenage rebellion. Ideas explored not only include those surrounding art and its consumption, but also current political issues and moral sanity in a world that is all a little mad.

Independent Australian artist and curator,
tai SNAITH will be giving you a good hit of badness straight from Melbourne’s studios, screening 5 short artists dvds and giving an overview of artistic activity in the city.

Artists featured include; kiron ROBINSON, the ROLLERGROOVES, LUSHUN, sarah LYNCH, arlo MOUNTFORD, emile ZILE

E m e r g e D

Based in Glasgow since 2002 E m e r g e D have showcased the work of over 300 artists in a variety of sites including vacant shop fronts, churches, derelict cafes, youth hostels and shopping centres. E m e r g e D has now expanded into Edinburgh offering local and international artists new opportunities to show their work and engage directly with audiences outside the traditional gallery setting.

Devised by a team of locally based artists and curators the programme ‘[00/00]’ will act as a flexible platform for site-responsive art. Each month an individual or group of artists will be commissioned to produce work in spaces throughout the city. Artist talks, debates and peer-led critique sessions will form a key part of the programme.
