Venue: 79 Trongate
Project Title: Endless Stitches

Summary of Artwork:
alison DUNLOP created a thread installation in response to the site. Exploring and describing the inside space while also trying to relate to the outside space. The small physical mass of the thread, when projected throughout the space allowed her to fill and define the volume in a very minimal way. The form of the work was determined by the space, but also took into account that it was only viewable from the outside. Seeing it from this angle meant that its appearance changed as the viewer walked by, mirroring the small or large movements of the body.

Description of artwork:
alison DUNLOP's work was a response to the site. It explored and described the inside space whilst also relating to the outside space. The installation was made entirely of thread pulled taught between walls repeated throughout the space to create blocks of vibrant colour when viewed from certain angles. The small physical mass of the thread, when projected throughout the space allowed her to fill and define the volume in a very minimal way.

The form of the work was determined by the layout and features of the space, but also took into account that it was only viewable from the outside, look in through the shop window. Seen only from this angle meant that its appearance changed as the viewer walked by, in a way it mirrored the small or large movements of the body.

The entire work was created on site, and grew as the week progressed. So the space she occupied was gradually replaced by the thread lines running throughout the room. The piece only lasted for the duration of the festival, with no trace of it remaining now.

Statement about current work:

alison DUNLOP creates installations that divide and define the space they occupy. She uses coloured thread attached to walls and ceilings creating barriers which are extremely fine and delicate yet at the same time dominate the space. She is interested in creating experiences that make the viewer more aware of the space they occupy and their movement through it. How they perceive their own body in relation to the work, the space and others in it.
